Commercial charging — questions we hear most
- How many chargers can my site realistically support?
- Depends on your incoming supply. A single-phase 100A supply comfortably runs 4–6 load-balanced 7kW units. Three-phase sites can scale to 20+ AC chargers, or a couple of 50kW rapids, without a DNO upgrade.
- What's the lead time for a commercial install?
- Single workplace units: 2–3 weeks from survey. Larger arrays (8+ chargers) typically 4–8 weeks because of DNO notification, civils and back-office setup. Rapid DC sites take longer if a new supply is needed.
- Can the Workplace Charging Scheme be combined with other funding?
- WCS gives you up to £350 per socket for the first 40 sockets. It can sit alongside Salix loans for public sector sites and some local authority grants — we apply for the stack you're eligible for.
- How do you route cables across a car park without trenching everywhere?
- Most sites use a combination of perimeter cable trays, bollard-mounted feeds, and short trenched runs only where unavoidable. Where the supply is far from the bays, a sub-board near the chargers cuts cable cost dramatically.
- Can drivers be billed automatically?
- Yes. We set up RFID, app payment or contactless terminals, with revenue share or flat tariff per kWh. Reporting handles VAT and reimbursement to staff with company EVs.
